چکیده

Introduction Hemorrhagic shock is responsible for high mortality rates in civilian injuries and combat casualties. The initial care of these patients comprehends an early assessment of hypovolemia, bleeding management and fluid resuscitation [1], while an adequate autonomic function is essential for maintaining the hemodynamic stability during haemorrhage. The analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) has been shown as a promising noninvasive technique for assessing the cardiac autonomic modulation in trauma, and several recent studies have demonstrated an association between HRV and clinical outcome [2].

Administration of Large Volume Hypertonic Solutions for Resuscitation of Hemorrhagic Shock in Rabbit

An animal model was designed to study the effect of large volume Hypertonic Solutions (HTS) for re‌suscitation following a hypovolemic shock. Resuscitation in hypovolemic animals was performed by infusion of 15 ml/kg of normal saline (group I), 5% sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) (group II), 5% sodium chloride (NaCI) and 7.5 % NaHCO3 1:1 VN (group III), 5% NaC1 (group IV), and 5% NaCl and 5% serum a...

Vertebral Heart Score: A Useful Parameter in Determination of Resuscitation Endpoint in Dogs with Hemorrhagic Shock

BACKGROUND: GReliable prediction of patient response to fluid resuscitation is a crucial issue in the management of hemorrhagic shock. OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to investigate vertebral heart score (VHS) variation in fluid resuscitation of hemorrhagic shock patients and the feasibility of this method in determining resuscitation endpoint.  METHODS: VHS values were assessed using previ...

Heart Rate Variability Analysis in an Experimental Model of Hemorrhagic Shock and Resuscitation in Pigs

BACKGROUND The analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) has been shown as a promising non-invasive technique for assessing the cardiac autonomic modulation in trauma. The aim of this study was to evaluate HRV during hemorrhagic shock and fluid resuscitation, comparing to traditional hemodynamic and metabolic parameters. METHODS Twenty anesthetized and mechanically ventilated pigs were submitt...

Treatment of uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock after liver trauma: fatal effects of fluid resuscitation versus improved outcome after vasopressin.

UNLABELLED In a porcine model of uncontrolled hemorrhagic shock, we evaluated the effects of vasopressin versus an equal volume of saline placebo versus fluid resuscitation on hemodynamic variables and short-term survival. Twenty-one anesthetized pigs were subjected to severe liver injury. When mean arterial blood pressure was <20 mm Hg and heart rate decreased, pigs randomly received either va...
